From our beginning in 1983, Tri-City Mechanical Contractors has been committed to completing projects safely and properly. As we grew, our safety program expanded to include employee training along with the commitment and involvement of management. In 1986, we contracted with Construction Safety, Inc. (Charlotte, NC) to help us meet OSHA job site requirements. In 1996 we hired our own Safety Director to continue our quest to be a leader in safety.
Our Safety Director, with the full support of management, implements our safety program. He works directly with our customers and insurance companies to ensure our compliance with every aspect of job safety. He also conducts monthly job site inspections to ensure compliance in the field.
Our Safety Director is a participating member of the National Safety Council and an OSHA 502 trainer. As a company, we are members of the Mid-Atlantic Safety Council (MASC). MASC representatives train all contract service personnel for its participant industrial facilities. In addition to regular MASC sessions, our training includes weekly work site meetings for all employees and training sessions for job superintendents and project managers. Attendance and participation are documented for all training sessions. In addition, we maintain OSHA-required documentation on our job sites and in our home office.
Continuing education and training of our employees include the following, as well as many others:
Fall Protection
Forklift Training
Confined Space
Competent Person
Ground Fault Equipment Checks
Lockout/Tagout Procedures
SDS/Hazard Communication
Ergonomics and Material Handling
Compressed Gases and Flammable/Combustible Liquids
Permit Required Confined Space Entry
Personal Protection Equipment
Hot Work Safety
Scaffold Safety
Ladder Safety
In addition to education and training, we conduct random, post-accident and probable cause substance abuse testing of current employees. We require substance abuse testing on all pre-employment applicants. We conduct background checks on request. All employees are required to wear approved PPE on job sites at all times. We are proud of the safety program at Tri-City Mechanical Contractors and believe that our commitment and achievements set us apart from other contractors.
